Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. This week is not tricky for me at all as 2014 was the year I started to actively read and got to the famous titles in the YA and middle-grade genres like The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson etc. I had a load of authors to pick from so these are my top top favourites (and the images are of books that I love most by them):

1. Sarah Crossan – I picked up The Weight of Water by accident off one of the ‘recommended’ shelves and it instantly became one of my favourite books of all time. The way she describes emotions hits home to me and I find her wrting style to be beautiful.
2. Cassandra Clare – I’ve marathoned all of Cassie’s books this year and I can definitely say The Infernal Devices is my favourite trilogy of all time. The fact that she has so many ideas for new projects and can make them link together so well amazes me.
3. Veronica Roth – Divergent is definitely one of, if not the fastest paced books I’ve ever read and it was really the book that got me into actively reading and for that I will always remember Veronica Roth.
4. Rick Riordan – I mean I’ve heard of Percy Jackson before but it was one of those cases where a series has so much hype that I’m subconsciously trying to stay away from it. That was a mistake. Rick Riordan is definitely one of the funniest authors I have ever read and he’s definitely become an auto-read author for me.
5. Sarah J. Maas – To be quite honest, I’ve only read one book by her so far (the other three are waiting on my shelf) and I feel like I say this every week but I immediately fell in love with her writing style and so that’s why she seems to make my Top Ten every week.
6. Richelle Mead – I absolutely loved marathoning the Vampire Academy series in the summer and Richelle Mead has the ability to make me outright burst out laughing in the most serious of scenes and so she had to make this week’s list.
7. Gayle Forman – Sometimes when I picture a book, I think to myself: ‘Wow. I was not okay after that. What a sob fest.’ If I Stay was one of those books. Absolutely perfect.
8. Stephanie Perkins – The cutest, most adorable contemporaries I’ve read are by this lady. Anna was my favourite with Lola close behind and I have yet to read Isla.
9. John Green – I started off the year with The Fault in Our Stars and since then read Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska (favourite!) and re-read The Fault in Our Stars before the movie. John Green’s writing is so unique and so thought-provoking I fall straight into his stories.
10. Margie Gelbwasser – So I’ve only read Pieces of Us by her but from my review you can tell I thought it was so so so good and I really recommend it!
