Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

e5163-toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. This week is not tricky for me at all as 2014 was the year I started to actively read and got to the famous titles in the YA and middle-grade genres like The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson etc. I had a load of authors to pick from so these are my top top favourites (and the images are of books that I love most by them):

  1. Sarah Crossan – I picked up The Weight of Water by accident off one of the ‘recommended’ shelves and it instantly became one of my favourite books of all time. The way she describes emotions hits home to me and I find her wrting style to be beautiful.
  2. Cassandra Clare – I’ve marathoned all of Cassie’s books this year and I can definitely say The Infernal Devices is my favourite trilogy of all time. The fact that she has so many ideas for new projects and can make them link together so well amazes me.
  3. Veronica Roth – Divergent is definitely one of, if not the fastest paced books I’ve ever read and it was really the book that got me into actively reading and for that I will always remember Veronica Roth.
  4. Rick Riordan – I mean I’ve heard of Percy Jackson before but it was one of those cases where a series has so much hype that I’m subconsciously trying to stay away from it. That was a mistake. Rick Riordan is definitely one of the funniest authors I have ever read and he’s definitely become an auto-read author for me.
  5. Sarah J. Maas – To be quite honest, I’ve only read one book by her so far (the other three are waiting on my shelf) and I feel like I say this every week but I immediately fell in love with her writing style and so that’s why she seems to make my Top Ten every week.
  6. Richelle Mead – I absolutely loved marathoning the Vampire Academy series in the summer and Richelle Mead has the ability to make me outright burst out laughing in the most serious of scenes and so she had to make this week’s list.
  7. Gayle Forman – Sometimes when I picture a book, I think to myself: ‘Wow. I was not okay after that. What a sob fest.’ If I Stay was one of those books. Absolutely perfect.
  8. Stephanie Perkins – The cutest, most adorable contemporaries I’ve read are by this lady. Anna was my favourite with Lola close behind and I have yet to read Isla.
  9. John Green – I started off the year with The Fault in Our Stars and since then read Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska (favourite!) and re-read The Fault in Our Stars before the movie. John Green’s writing is so unique and so thought-provoking I fall straight into his stories.
  10. Margie Gelbwasser – So I’ve only read Pieces of Us by her but from my review you can tell I thought it was so so so good and I really recommend it!

How many of them made it to your list this week? Probably not many since I’ve very late to to the party for most of them but oh well… Leave a link down below to your list and I’ll check them out!

  1. So many amazing books on your list. You’ve definitely read so many of my favourites this year. I loved The Infernal Devices, but I haven’t read the sixth from Mortal Instruments because I was getting a bit over Jace/ Clary by the fifth book. I also adore Throne of Glass. If you have the book of novellas, read them next. It’s like getting a whole other book rather than five novellas haha. I hope you discover many more amazing authors next year 🙂

    • I know what you mean about Jace and Clary. I can say though that the sixth book is my favourite book of The Mortal Instruments and many people said it even beat City of Glass which I think was viewed as the typical fandom favourite.

Oh, would you say it would be better to read the novellas after Throne of Glass then? I have Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire and The Assassin’s Blade all ready so I could read The Assassin’s Blade at any time cause I heard it wouldn’t really make a difference? I’m not sure. What do you think?

Thank you very much darling! Happy reading for next year ❤

    • I sometimes do that too but most of the time the books look really good and everyone is talking about them so that kind of pulls me in. I’m glad you like Rick’s books though! How many did you read?

    • Ahh a newbie in the Percy Jackson fandom. Whoop whoop! If you’re enjoying The Lightning Thief I think you’ll definitely like the rest of Rick Riordan’s books.

Would City of Bones be an early Christmas present? :3 I hope you like it! Have you read The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare?

  2. Divergent was new to me too! So was Gayle Foreman, but I had an awful experience with her novel; in truth, I doubt I would ever read any of her books, that’s just me though 😉 I also tried Looking for Alaska after reading TFiOS, but was turned off by the sexual content; it was way to heavy for my taste. Still and all, they are talented authors! 🙂

    • Ahh I find that Gayle Forman is more of a love-or-hate author but I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t really like her. I did notice that too when I first read Looking for Alaska for the first time but I just kind of ignored it I guess. I’ve only read that one, TFIOS and Paper Towns by John Green. Have you read any others by him? Did you like them better?

      • I haven’t actually :/ After reading TFiOS, I jumped into Looking for Alaska, and because I found it extremely offensive, I’ve placed him on my “Shun List” ha ha! Is Paper Towns full of explicit sexual content too? I’m very apprehensive about his work :/

I am SO thankful TFiOS was my first John Green experience though! So memorable 🙂

    • Gosh, I hope you like Stephanie Perkins! Her stories are really cute and adorable :3 I think, from what people have been saying, you either hate it or you love it and I’m not sure if that’s Gayle Forman in general or just that book. Hope you enjoy Just One Day though!

    • Ahh, you must tell me what you think when you finish it! Finally someone who loves Looking for Alaska more than the others! Whoop whoop! Most of the people I talked to said their favourite is either TFIOS or Paper Towns which I’m kind of confused about because I wasn’t too big of a fan of Paper Towns.
Thank you very much! You too darling!

  3. I have read John Green and that’s only the fault in our stars! I do own throne of glass though I should probably get round to that soon. I’m not a fan of Cassandra Clare’s just because the whole story isn’t for me, i’m not into that sorta thing, she’s a great writer though! Really talented to have thought the whole world up.

    • I think you’ll like his other books if you liked TFIOS :3 Throne of Glass is fantastic! Fantasy is great for this time of the year and I really recommend it C:
Aw I’m sorry you didn’t like the Shadowhunter world. She does have a middle-grade fantasy with Holly Black that is going to be 5 or 6 books and the first one is really good. :3
